Empowering Change: Van Kam’s Tribute to International Women’s Day

March 1, 2024

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2024 this March, Van Kam Freightways is proudly continuing our tradition of supporting the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) in its mission to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for women in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. With this gesture, we honour the invaluable contributions of women to our society. Our support for DEWC is a small gesture of gratitude for their tireless work towards empowering women and promoting gender equality.

Contribution with Purpose

Our donation to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) reflects our commitment to giving back and supporting an organization that has a significant impact on the well-being of women. “By contributing to DEWC, we’re able to positively influence an essential part of our community, one that is vital for the well-being of many women,” Lenore Henry, our Co-Director of Charities & Donations, expressed. This donation is intended to support DEWC’s efforts to prioritize the health and safety of women, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and support.

A Cornerstone of Support

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre has been a cornerstone of support in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside since 1978, offering meals, counselling, advocacy, and programs that nurture and empower women from all walks of life. With a mission to provide basic needs services, specialized support, and emergency shelter services, the DEWC stands as a testament to what compassion and community support can achieve. The Centre’s dedication to providing a variety of essential services underscores the importance of our donation and the broader need for community involvement in women’s health and safety.

Herstory Gala 2024

The DEWC’s Herstory Gala, an event slated for March 5th at the Vancouver Art Gallery, stands as a crucial fundraiser and a celebration of the strides made in women’s health and empowerment. Featuring a silent auction among other highlights, the gala is a perfect avenue for community members to contribute to the cause. Van Kam eagerly anticipates the event, recognizing its potential to further DEWC’s impactful work.

Towards a Brighter Tomorrow

Through our partnership with DEWC, Van Kam Freightways is proud to stand in solidarity with women, advocating for equity, safety, and empowerment. We invite our community to join us in this commitment, whether through donations, attending the Herstory gala, or simply spreading the word about the invaluable work DEWC does. Together, we can forge a path toward a more inclusive and supportive future for all women.
