Van Kam’s Season of Giving: Lighting Up Lives and Hearts

November 30, 2023

As the festive season approaches, Van Kam Freightways is committed to embracing the spirit of giving by channelling our energy into supporting communities and sponsoring initiatives that go far beyond the roads we travel. Lenore Henry, Co-Director of Charities & Donations, shares that “It’s the season for us to step up and spread cheer where it’s needed the most.”

Champions on Ice for a Cause

The rink glitters not just with ice but with generosity during the CAN (Canucks Autism Network) Pro-Am hockey tournament. This year, with Van Kam as a Silver Sponsor, the event hit a record-breaking stride, raising over $1.07 million. This fusion of sportsmanship and charity underscores our belief in teamwork, both in logistics and community support. Our role in the tournament went deeper than the excitement of hockey—it was about teaming up with the Canucks Autism Network to lend a helping hand to those with autism.

Canuck Alumni Allstar, Jyrki Lumme, was one of many former Vancouver NHL hockey players to lace up for fundraising at the CAN Pro-Am.

Nourishing Hearts and Homes

In a concerted effort to nourish not just bodies but spirits, we recently joined forces with Tydel Foods to support their Low-Income Seniors Program. This partnership with Tydel Foods for their Low-Income Seniors Program is a direct reflection of our commitment to the community. We’re ensuring that seniors not only receive nutritious meals but also feel the warmth and joy of the holiday season. “Feeding the soul of our community starts with the basic act of providing a meal,” reflects Lenore.

Lighting the Way for Youth

Van Kam is passionate about advocating for children and youth, and we are proud to be Community Champion sponsors of the annual United Way Tree of Lights campaign. This initiative is close to our hearts, aiming to brighten the lives of the younger ones in our community. Lenore shares, “We’re focused on spreading hope and happiness, particularly for the kids.” This year’s event is a delightful mix of fun and support, highlighted by Santa’s story time, available both live and online, coupled with a creative colouring contest. Our goal is to ensure every child experiences the joy and warmth of this special season.

Festive Joy for Everyone

Continuing our season of giving, Van Kam is also deeply involved in various Christmas Bureaus across the region. By supporting the Surrey, Langley, and Lower Mainland Christmas Bureaus, along with the Cause We Care Christmas Hamper and the Kamloops Food Bank, we are reaching out to diverse communities. These initiatives represent our commitment to bringing smiles and relief during the festive season. “Each donation is a token of our dedication to the communities we serve,” Lenore notes.

Join Our Winter of Warmth

Van Kam Freightways is committed to making this holiday season a time of warmth and support. We invite you to join us in these causes that make a significant impact in our community. Together, we can make this winter truly special for everyone.
