Smokin’ Thanks: Van Kam’s Employee Appreciation BBQ

October 3, 2023

In the hustle of everyday operations, taking a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of our employees is a tradition we hold dear at Van Kam. This year, we decided to express our gratitude through a series of Employee Appreciation BBQs held across our various terminals. It was a simple yet heartfelt gesture to acknowledge the relentless efforts of our team.

A Pause from the Hustle

The BBQs served as a refreshing pause from the daily grind. Though on different days across our terminals, each event was a mirror of relaxation and casual camaraderie. It was about stepping away from the desks, steering wheels and forklift buttons, and enjoying a hearty meal, and engaging in light-hearted conversations. As the grills sizzled, so did the spirits of our team members. The aroma of grilled meats and veggies wafted through the air, adding a touch of festivity to the atmosphere.

A special shoutout to our very own, Bill Burnett, known to us as Barbecue Bill, Van Kam’s Safety and Compliance Trainer. Bill masterfully took charge of the grill at our Surrey Terminal, serving up burgers slathered with his own signature BBQ sauce.

Breaking Bread, Building Bonds

Amidst the enticing aroma of grilled delights, employees from various teams mingled shared laughs, and enjoyed the scrumptious spread. The casual ambiance broke down the usual work silos, encouraging conversations between departments that don’t interact daily. It was a sight to behold as the finance team shared burgers with the dispatch team, and the HR personnel laughed along with the dock workers.

Forward Together

As the BBQs concluded and we returned to our respective roles, the sense of unity and appreciation carried on. The laughter shared, the stories exchanged, and the meals enjoyed together were a reminder of the collective spirit that drives us forward.

The Employee Appreciation BBQs were not just about good food, but about celebrating the people who make Van Kam a thriving community, and looking forward to achieving many more milestones together.
