We’re excited to share that Van Kam Freightways is now part of the BC Buy Local initiative! As a family-owned BC-based business for over 77 years, supporting local businesses and our communities is in our DNA. Joining BC Buy Local allows us to give back further, strengthen local connections, and contribute to making our province an even better place to live and work.
Being part of BC Buy Local is about celebrating what makes our communities unique—the people, the businesses, and the partnerships that keep our province thriving. We work with nearly 5,000 local businesses across BC, from small shops to larger organizations. Each of these partnerships helps support local jobs and keep dollars circulating within the province.
Van Kam has always believed in the power of local businesses. Whether we’re moving goods for BC companies or partnering with local suppliers for our operations, it’s a win-win for everyone. In fact, local businesses generate eight times more jobs and revenue per square foot than multinational corporations, according to BC Buy Local. By joining this initiative, we’re reaffirming our commitment to moving freight and helping our communities grow and prosper.
As part of our continued efforts to support local businesses, we’re excited to join BC Buy Local in celebrating Small Business Week from October 20-26th. This year’s theme, BC Amplify Local, encourages businesses to strengthen local connections and invest in their communities. From attending workshops to sourcing local suppliers, Small Business Week is the perfect opportunity to reflect on how local partnerships drive economic growth and sustainability across our communities.
Sustainability is something we take seriously. Through our Green Initiatives Program, we’ve been working hard to cut down on emissions and keep our operations as environmentally friendly as possible. From using fuel-efficient trucks to constantly reviewing how we can improve, we always look for ways to make a positive impact. With BC Buy Local, we’re excited to continue exploring new ways to protect our planet. Supporting local businesses inherently reduces transportation emissions and helps cut down on the environmental impact of global shipping.
Supporting local businesses is just one part of what we do. Every year, we donate to nearly 40 local charities across BC, supporting causes that matter to our communities. Whether it’s delivering goods or giving back, our goal is to help build strong, connected communities and make a meaningful difference where we operate.
We’re proud to be part of BC Buy Local and look forward to continuing our commitment to supporting local businesses, giving back to our communities, and protecting the environment.
