Members of the Van Kam Freightways Service Center in Prince George, BC, recently volunteered their time to assist the United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) in decorating their 50ft ‘Tree of Lights.’ As a long-standing holiday tradition in the city, this annual campaign aims to bring community partners together for a united cause. The tree was hoisted on November 12th atop the Coast Prince George Hotel in downtown Prince George.

Spreading the Joy

This year’s theme is ‘joy’ as the UWNBC aspires to offer lights of hope & joy to offset the various hardships this province has been through with the pandemic, wildfires, and recent floods & mudslides. Funds raised this season will go toward mental health facilities within the city. “We are so thrilled to be able to bring the Tree of Lights back to Prince George once again this year! Our vision for this year’s campaign is ‘joy’ in all its ways and connecting the community together to make a truly meaningful impact in this amazing place we call home,” said Trista Spencer, Executive Director, UWNBC.

“Van Kam has fantastic volunteers, and their time was greatly appreciated!” – Lorna Bihori

Representing Van Kam for decorating the tree was Tim Rebinsky (Regional Manager – Northern BC) and our Business Development Manager for Northern BC. When Lorna Bihori (UWNBC Resource Development Officer) reached out to them to help put up lights on the tree, they were delighted to offer their time and services. “I’ve been in Northern BC my whole life, and was thrilled about the invite to volunteer,” stated Tim when asked about his involvement.

Supporting Communities

Van Kam recognizes that it has a social responsibility to better the lives of its customers, employees and communities. Our team takes great pride in our efforts to give back to the communities where we work and operate, and this event for the United Way is no different. The kindness runs deep throughout Van Kam as even our corporate head office in Surrey got involved with a supporting donation to be made in December!
