How Our Website Collects Information

Below are the three main ways we collect information about our website visitors.

1. Google Analytics

Third parties design and operate website analytics platforms for businesses to use with a website; Van Kam uses Google Analytics (to be referred as “Analytics”) and Google Tag Manager to connect to our website through the implementation of a small piece of Javascript code, known as a “tag,” either placed directly to a website’s code or within a tag management system like Google Tag Manager. The Analytics information collected is anonymous; it can’t be used to identify you or your IP address and does not contain personal information such as your name and email address. Read more about Google Analytics 4 data collection methods and privacy safeguards here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?sjid=14136740393425197258-NC#info_for_sites.

2. Contact Forms, Chat and Newsletter Subscriptions

Contact forms are available on our site for visitors to send Van Kam correspondence about our services, to use our live customer service chat (hosted by the third-party company LiveChat Inc.) and to subscribe to our monthly newsletter.

Correspondence through forms is processed and stored through our secure email servers. By submitting a form, you consent to us contacting you in response to your questions or service request and agree to our Privacy Policy. We do not provide your completed form information to any third parties.

User info entered by visitors using our third-party LiveChat services is stored in their data centers, provided by Softlayer, located in Texas, US. Services provided to us by Softlayer comply with the SSAE16 standard, and a strict security program for protection is in place. LiveChat employs security policies that ensure the safety of data storage and transmission. All LiveChat connections are encrypted with 256-bit SSL protocol. The stored data has no expiration date.

Signing up for our monthly newsletter requires the storage of your subscription info with our secure third-party email marketing provider, MailChimp. Mailchimp delivers billions of emails a month for millions of users. Mailchimp’s owned and operated servers are located in world class data centers in the United States. In addition, they leverage third-party vendors who process personal data and provide services to Mailchimp. They may transfer data to those third parties as outlined in their Privacy Statement and Data Processing Addendum (DPA), and in accordance with data protection laws. More information about their security and privacy safeguards can be found here: https://mailchimp.com/about/security/.

3. Cookies

By using our site, you agree that we may store and access cookies on your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) either currently, or in the future. A cookie is a small text file sent to your device by the web server so the website can remember some information about your browsing activity.

How We Use Collected Website Information

Data From Analytics

We use Analytics with our website to measure user activity and automatically send details to Analytics as “events.” The default info in Analytics provides us info on:

  • Number of site users
  • Session statistics
  • Approximate geolocation
  • Browser and device information

Analytics information allows us to analyze patterns of user behaviour on our site, improve user experience, and identify areas for improvement.

Contact Forms, Chat Info and Newsletter Subscriptions

We only use the information you directly submit on a form to contact you about your request on our website. We do not provide your completed form information to any third parties.

LiveChat information is only used by our internal customer service team to assist you with your question. Chat details and user information are securely stored with LiveChat so we can access all our chat sessions; it is not provided to any third parties.

Newsletter sign-up info is only used to send you monthly email messages that we create on MailChimp’s secure online platform. We do not provide our email subscription lists to any third parties. We may from time to time send you important updates regarding service interruptions or related news considered to be important to our business operations.

Cookies

Our site may use cookies to remember some information about your browsing activity and help distinguish you from other users accessing our website. The cookie collects information about your use of our site, information about your device such as the device type and browser type, geographic data and, if you arrived at our site via a link from a third-party site, the URL of the linking page.
