Naser Elhaei has been driving trucks in BC and Alberta for 25 years. He has seen many companies, run many routes, and logged more miles than most people can imagine. But the last ten years, running linehaul for Van Kam Freightways, have been the best of his career. For Naser, the work is steady, the people are good, and the road still feels right.
Naser spent years in the industry before landing at Van Kam, driving across BC and Alberta for different carriers. When he joined Van Kam, something was different. “I have worked for a lot of companies in 25 years,” he says. “I have never worked for a company like this one. The work is steady, the pay is great, and the benefits are great. I have nothing to complain about.” Ten years later, he means every word of it.
Most weeks, Naser is behind the wheel running the Surrey to Kamloops to Kelowna corridor. It is a route he knows well and is comfortable with. “Good work, good people,” he says. “That is what keeps you going.” After a quarter century in the industry, Naser knows the difference between a job that works and one that does not. Van Kam works.
When Naser is off the road, he is at home with his family. Time with his wife, helping around the house, keeping things running on the home front. And then there is the cooking. Naser loves to cook Iranian food, and his best dishes are chicken salona and beef salona, both served with rice. “That is where I am happiest,” he says. “At home, with my family, with good food on the table.”
Naser is approaching 70, and he is starting to think about what comes next. But before any of that, he wants the milestone to land the way it deserves to. Ten years with one company, doing work he is proud of, alongside people he respects. “The best years of my career have been here,” he says. “I am grateful for that.” Van Kam is grateful too.
