Chris Sardinha recently joined Van Kam as Dock Manager at our Surrey Terminal. He comes with a solid background in fast-paced freight environments and a reputation for keeping things running when the pressure is on. We sat down with him to learn a bit more about what drives him, what brought him to Van Kam, and what he gets up to when he’s off the clock.
Chris doesn’t describe his career in titles or milestones. He describes it in momentum. “A big part of my experience has been helping keep things moving when it gets hectic,” he says. “Figuring things out on the fly, solving problems, making sure freight keeps going.” For Chris, that’s not just the job. That’s the part he genuinely enjoys.
No two days look exactly the same for Chris. Between coordinating freight, talking with the warehouse, and making sure shipments are loaded to the right destination terminals, there’s always something pulling his attention. “There’s always something going on,” he says, “so it keeps you on your toes, which I like.” It’s that steady stream of moving pieces that keeps the work interesting.
Chris was drawn to the trucking industry for a straightforward reason: it matters. “Everything depends on it in one way or another,” he says. “There’s always work.” When it came to choosing where to plant his roots, Van Kam’s reputation and team environment stood out. “It seemed like a good place to grow and be part of something steady.”
Chris loves to keep things simple. He spends time with friends and family, and when he gets the chance, he’s out working on his JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) vehicle. For anyone who knows car culture, that says plenty. It takes patience, a good eye for detail, and a real love for the craft. Sounds about right for someone who makes his living making sure everything runs the way it should.
