Exploring Electric: Van Kam’s New Step Toward Sustainability

January 30, 2025

Van Kam is always looking for ways to move forward while reducing our environmental impact. As part of this effort, we’re collaborating with our agent, Gat Leedm Logistics to test electric tractors and a P&D unit. With Van Kam decals on these vehicles, we are proud to be part of an exciting journey toward sustainable transportation.

The Pilot Program

The test begins in late January and runs through February. It will focus on how electric vehicles perform in container hauling and LTL deliveries. “These trucks will run for 10 to 11 hours daily, giving us valuable insights into how they handle the workload and the logistics of charging,” said Peter McSorley, General Manager at Gat Leedm Logistics. This pilot aims to evaluate the efficiency, reliability, and practicality of electric tractors under the demands of our industry.

Testing the Limits

For Van Kam and Gat Leedm, the goal is to understand how electric vehicles can reduce emissions and bring long-term benefits to the industry. “We want to see how these vehicles perform under real-world conditions and how they handle the demands of container hauling and P&D tasks,” said Peter. This pilot will provide valuable insights into how electric technology can support modern transportation needs while contributing to sustainability efforts.

A Greener Future

This pilot is a meaningful step toward building a more sustainable future. The insights we gain will help us explore better ways to integrate electric technology into our operations, moving us closer to greener, cleaner trucking. We’re looking forward to seeing how this journey shapes the future of electric transportation and its role in building a more sustainable industry.
