Committed to Safety Every Mile

February 27, 2025

Van Kam Freightways passed the external COR Audit for 2025, earning the Certificate of Recognition (COR) for Occupational Health and Safety. This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping our employees safe while ensuring we operate at the highest industry standards.

What COR Certification Means

The COR program is a nationally recognized safety standard that requires companies to develop and maintain a strong health and safety management system. To achieve certification, businesses must undergo rigorous internal and external audits to prove they meet and exceed safety requirements. At Van Kam, this process is about creating a workplace where safety is part of everything we do.

“Any program that we are involved in that can reduce injuries and accidents in the workplace and puts our people in a safer work environment so they can go home to their families every day is a program that Van Kam stands behind,” says Bill Burnett, Van Kam’s Safety Manager.

Why This Matters

A safe workplace benefits everyone. Companies with COR certification see a 28% reduction in lost-time injuries, a 20% reduction in high-impact injuries, and an 18% lower injury rate than non-certified companies. At Van Kam, safety is a core value, and we know that when employees feel safe, they work more efficiently, morale improves, and operations run more smoothly.

COR certification also provides financial advantages by lowering workers’ compensation rates and reducing time-loss claims. It strengthens our ability to work with major clients who require strict safety standards, giving us a competitive edge in the industry.

A Recognition That Reflects Our Commitment

Passing the COR Audit is an achievement but not the finish line. Safety is an ongoing effort, and we continue to review and improve our practices every year. “I have received our certificate, and shortly, we will be receiving stickers for all of our equipment, and each terminal will display the COR certification,” Bill shares.

This achievement reflects the effort our team puts into making safety a priority every day and our commitment to keeping everyone safe on the job.
