Champion of the Crescent 2024: Paddling Together for a Cause

July 29, 2024

Van Kam Freightways believes in supporting the communities where we live and work. This July, we participated in the Champion of the Crescent, a charity paddleboard event in British Columbia organized by the Surrey Hospitals Foundation to support youth mental health programs. Our team of four paddlers competed in the fast-paced water relays, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the communities we serve.

A Day of Fun and Fundraising

The Champion of the Crescent event gathered community members, sponsors, and supporters. Held on the scenic shores of Crescent Beach at Blackie Spit Park in South Surrey, it featured paddleboarding, engaging activities, and a spirit of camaraderie. Our Van Kam team joined other participants in thrilling water relays, competing for the Champion of the Crescent trophy. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, friendly competition, and a strong sense of community, all united by a common goal: to impact young people’s lives positively.

Impact and Contributions

Thanks to the efforts of participants and sponsors, the event raised an impressive $218,346. These funds will go towards crucial mental health programs for young people in Surrey, including art, music, recreation therapy, sensory interventions, and therapeutic writing. These initiatives are essential in providing support and creative outlets for children and teens facing mental health challenges.

A Legacy of Care

Since 1947, Van Kam has been more than just a transportation company. We are an active part of the communities we serve, and our involvement in the Champion of the Crescent is part of our long-standing tradition of supporting local charities and non-profits. We believe strong communities are built by engaged citizens and businesses working together.

Continuing Our Commitment

At Van Kam, we CARE deeply about the well-being of our employees, customers, and the broader community. Events like Champion of the Crescent highlight the impact we can make when we come together for a common cause. We look forward to continuing our support for community initiatives and making a positive difference in the lives of those around us.
