Van Kam is a sponsor of the 5th annual Stseptékwles re Sk’elép (Coyote Stories) Indigenous Film Festival, held September 25 to 27, 2026, at the Paramount Theatre in Kamloops. The Kamloops Film Society puts on the festival in collaboration with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, and together they give Indigenous filmmakers three days of screen time to tell the stories they choose.
Now in its fifth year, the festival is set up to showcase the best in Indigenous filmmaking. The 2026 lineup brings together films, short film showcases, panel discussions, masterclasses, and special events, so audiences can hear from the people behind the camera while watching their work. Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc co-presents the festival with the Kamloops Film Society, and the program leads into National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2026.
Kamloops is home to one of our terminals and when we decide where our community support goes, we start with the places our people live and work. A festival that fills a downtown theatre with Indigenous stories, made in partnership with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, is exactly the kind of thing we want to be part of in Kamloops. Our part is straightforward: help with the costs so organizers can focus their energy on the program and the people who show up for it.
Film asks an audience to sit still and listen for a while. Holding this festival in the days before National Day for Truth and Reconciliation gives people in Kamloops time to do that, with Indigenous filmmakers telling their own stories in their own way. Thank you to the Kamloops Film Society and Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc for building a festival worth backing, and to everyone who fills the seats at the Paramount Theatre.
