Van Kam Freightways Ltd. has now qualified as a CSA Carrier. For those customers that are presently CSA qualified importers, we can now transport your freight from the USA to Canada, or provide interline delivery service for your initial CSA carrier

CSA stands for Customs Self Assessment. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has added this program to reduce transit times and border clearance frustrations for importers of low risk shipments.

The focus of CSA for importers, at the moment, is on the automotive and auto parts sector importing from the USA and Mexico. Importers who are CSA approved enjoy faster delivery times, and modified timelines for payment of duties and taxes. The qualifications include broader provisions for self clearing of shipments. Almost all movements are dealt with electronically, resulting in a reduction in paper.
